I Am DEDICATED To Working Yo Tired Ass
To be DEDICATED, in word processing center lingo, means that you are assigned exclusively to work for one person or one group of people. In practical terms, what being DEDICATED usually means is that there will be a lot more DOWN TIME, because the people you are working with will have to proof what you typed and make further modifications before you will have any other work to do. Also, if you are DEDICATED, you can legally tell other people who ask you to do work for them to “go fuck themselves”.
In a word processing center, in theory anyway, once you finish a job, there is another job in the in-box to pick-up and work on. When you are DEDICATED to one person or a group of people, when you finish a document there is nothing to do but wait for the people you are working for to turn the document around again.
There once was a temp who was DEDICATED to work for Attorney “A” on a third shift assignment. Attorney “A” did not have a lot of work for the temp to do so, apparently, the temp fell asleep in the word processing center. Now, Attorney “B” happened into the word processing center, this being around 3:00 am or 4:00 am, and saw that the temp wasn’t doing anything (and in fact that the temp was asleep). Attorney “B” shook the temp awake and asked the temp if he could type something for her. The temp, brutally shaken awake by Attorney “B”, replied: “I can’t type that for you, I’m dedicated to Attorney “A””. we assume the temp then went back to sleep; we heard this story from the WP Supervisor the next morning after the temp was DNU-ed.
The moral? While you can legally tell other people to go fuck themselves when you are dedicated to someone else, you must some how manage to stay awake.
