My Life As A Vicious NYC Temp:
So YOU Wrote The Book On Temping
I’m thinking that maybe I should stop repeating this story, because the guy in question hasn’t really done anything to me that I know of (except maybe fighting and clawing to get hired perm on a temp job we were both on). But still, I just think it is so funny.
So any who, this guy was on a temp assignment with me explaining temping to me because he had just written a book on temping. Now, at this point in time, I knew all of the money making shops and agencies and I know that Book Writing Guy wasn’t at any of them and therefore that he wasn’t making any money. But, believe it or not, I actually tired to be nice.
During a conversation in which I was trying to explain to Book Writer Guy how it was much better if you could get over time from one agency instead of working straight time for several temp agencies, Book Writer Guy interjected that “You Can’t Get Over Time From A Temp Agency”.
Now it turns out that Book Writer Guy had been working for this one temp agency that had been screwing him out of over time for so long that Book Writer Guy actually thought that that was how all temp agencies worked. Book Writer Guy had already finished writing his book, so you have to wonder what kind of advise he could have given in it.
After a few years in temping in which he was probably the least successful temp I knew of, Book Writer Guy got a perm job and is now a MANAGER of a Center (whereas I am merely the OWNER of a center).
BTW, more or less in jest, I told Book Writer Guy that If I wrote a book on temping I would call it "How To Be A Ho!". Book Writer Guy said "Who's better qualified to write a book on Ho-ing than you?"
Yea, I could have slapped the shit out of him, but I just thought of all the OT he had been fucked out of for years and years and felt sorry for him.
