I saw Maroon 5 on Saturday Night Live and it reminded me of the time I heard this White European Woman trying to sing Jazz (Bacha sp).
The first time I heard Bacha, I just thought: "What the hell is she doing?". I think she was introduced as a jazz singer on some music show and when she came out and I saw what she looked like, I just knew that I would hate her. But over time, I came to appreciate Bacha because while attempting to sing Jazz, she actually achieved something new and different. Do you realize that the Rolling Stones were actually R&B fans and that they were actually trying to sing R&B? What is great about music is that all good music sounds great. While I' sure that some Black Torch/Jazz Singer could turn Maroon 5's songs into some incredible Jazz and/or R&B songs, Maroon 5's songs coming from this skinny White Boy is something similar and yet completely different from Jazz and R&B. It is like a skinny 20 something White Boy channeling Ella Fitzgerald or something. Attached image(s)
